You will notice someone is having a Panic Attack when their breathing becomes very shallow and fast. They may also start to feel very hot or very cold.
They may also have a pain in the chest, which is frightening. If this person is normally physically healthy, then these symptoms may be caused by stress.
A quick method to support this person is to try Tapping.
The Butterfly Hug helps to end a panic attack by providing a calming and grounding effect. Through the act of crossing the wrists and tapping each hand in turn on to the opposite shoulder, the person can focus on the physical sensation of the vibrations of the taps and the comfort of the hug. The Butterfly hug will stop a panic attack in less than 3 minutes.
This is one aspect of ‘Tapping,’ as a method to support anxiety and worry. The book ‘Tapping the Healer within,’ is written by Roger Callahan, who developed this technique.
Always encourage the person to visit their GP if this sensation occurs often. Call 999 if the person becomes very distressed.
Look at a ‘Tapping’ You tube video, if you need to see the exact technique. Call the diocese and any educational adviser will be able to demonstrate this technique to you via Zoom.
