Bishop Guli meets with students at St Andrew’s

31 January 2025

The Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford, visited St Andrew's Church of England Primary School in North Weald on 27 January 2025, where she witnessed firsthand the students' commitment to social justice.

The Bishop joined the school for collective worship, which centered on the theme of courage in the face of injustice. Following the service, she met with a group of Year 5 and 6 students, some of whom are asylum seekers. These students have played a vital role in educating their classmates about the realities of seeking asylum, sharing their personal experiences and fostering understanding within the school.

Inspired by these discussions, Year 5 students recently wrote to their local Member of Parliament, advocating for equal opportunities for asylum seekers.

The Bishop also met with staff members who were instrumental in supporting asylum-seeking children who joined St Andrew's in 2022.
