Collaboration & Networking

Working Together to Support Church Schools

The Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Education (CDBE) believes that strong relationships and collaboration are fundamental to the flourishing of Church schools across Essex and East London.

We encourage MATs to engage actively with one another, sharing expertise, learning and resources in ways that strengthen individual schools and contribute to the wider diocesan system. Through strategic dialogue and partnership working, MATs play a key role in supporting the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of Church of England education.

MAT CEO Network

The Diocese facilitates opportunities for MAT CEOs and executive leaders to meet regularly for conversation, collaboration and strategic discussion.

The network provides opportunities to:

  • discuss emerging educational and policy developments
  • share learning and effective practice
  • consider diocesan priorities and opportunities
  • contribute to discussions regarding MAT capacity, growth and sustainability
  • strengthen relationships across the diocesan family of schools.

Learning and Professional Development

MAT leaders are encouraged to engage with learning opportunities offered through the Diocese and wider Church of England networks.

These opportunities may include:

  • leadership development
  • governance training
  • Christian leadership and distinctiveness
  • SIAMS and RE development
  • strategic updates and briefings
  • conferences and networking events.

Peer Support and Collaboration

The Diocese values a culture of mutual support between MATs and encourages opportunities for collaboration where this benefits schools and pupils.

Examples may include:

  • sharing expertise and specialist capacity
  • supporting schools facing challenge
  • collaborative school improvement activity
  • leadership mentoring and coaching
  • sharing resources and examples of effective practice.

Strategic Collaboration

The Diocese works with MATs to support a coherent and sustainable Church school system.

This includes ongoing dialogue regarding:

  • school sustainability
  • MAT capacity and development
  • future growth opportunities
  • geographical considerations
  • support for small and rural schools
  • wider diocesan priorities and system planning.

Staying Connected

We encourage MAT leaders to engage actively with diocesan networks, events and opportunities for collaboration. Through working together, we can strengthen Church schools, support leaders and ensure that children and young people continue to experience life in all its fullness through education.
