Global Majority Education Association launches at Chelmsford Cathedral

16 November 2021

Monday 15 November saw the launch of the Global Majority Education Association (GMEA) at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Sponsored by the Diocesan Board of Education, the Association seeks to establish a coalition of global majority teachers and educational leaders. It will be creating a forum to improve the outcomes and opportunities for global majority educators and pupils, and looks to identify, support and develop global majority professionals within the Diocese.

It is our shared understanding that every pupil will benefit from the diversity, excellence and leadership of an empowered global majority teaching force.

The event was opened with sung worship by pupils from St Edwards Church of England Academy Romford, followed by keynote speaker People's Lawyer and People's Poet, David Neita (image left).

Space was provided for networking and workshops for diversity in both the primary and secondary curriculums, as well as an opportunity to explore diversity and inclusion in school governance. Carlton Darrell joined the launch and shared his experiences of being the first global majority headteacher in Essex.
