Spirituality Through Art Week

9 March 2026

William Martin CofE Schools and Nursery in Harlow recently held a Spirituality through Art week.

Pupils used the ‘Threads of Creation’ panels created by textile artist Jacqui Parkinson as a stimulus. They are bright and vibrant, and feature inspiring depictions of the natural world and universe, based on the Christian creation story.

Each child in every year group, from Nursery through to Year 6, contributed to a large collective piece of artwork based on a section of the panels.  Each child also created a smaller individual piece of artwork which formed the bespoke borders.

Within the week, the pupils also focused on some of the language which surrounds spirituality, such as stillness, wonder, reflect, beauty, unique and appreciate.

Overall, the children really valued the week and are incredibly proud of their completed artwork which is now displayed throughout William Martin schools. These are just a few of the things they had to say at the end of the week!

'Take time to find beauty in something. You can always find it'.

'If I reflect on what God has done for us and made all of these animals and fish in the sea I feel sad that some creatures are dying.  It’s hard to make a difference on my own but I want to try and influence others'.

'Whether or not you have a religion you can wonder about how things got here'.
