Collective Worship is central to the life of Church of England schools, shaping their distinctive Christian character and supporting the spiritual development of every member of the school community.
This model policy has been created by the Diocese Board of education to support schools in designing and implementing high‑quality Collective Worship that reflects current Church of England guidance and the expectations set out in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) Framework.
Grounded in the belief that every child and adult is made in the image of God and loved unconditionally, Collective Worship in our schools should be inclusive, invitational, and inspiring. It welcomes all, offering time and space for pupils and adults—of all faiths and none—to explore, question, reflect, and respond. Worship should provide opportunities to encounter Christian teaching and values, experience stillness and reflection, and consider how faith can shape the way we live and care for one another and the wider world.
This model policy aims to support schools in shaping Collective Worship that grows out of their Christian vision, celebrates the richness of Anglican tradition, and nurtures the spirituality of the whole school community. It can be adapted to reflect each school’s unique context while ensuring consistency with diocesan and national expectations.
